Here are my footwear final 3 designs. We presented them with an introductory page to our persona, trend, etc. I also made a mood board because my shoe is being designed for a very specific market that a lot of my classmates and teachers don't know about. So far we have presented our designs 4 times, to our teachers, classmates, and 2 industry professionals. I presented my ideas with a rough mock up that I made of design 3 by purchasing thrift store shoes and cutting/pasting the design together. I've been thinking a lot about branding and the way my shoe company would be run, and I also mocked up a shoe box that would be made from recycled record sleeves. The design that I mocked up, number 3, has gotten the biggest response and will be the design I develop further for my final.

I felt like these two things should go into a separate post instead of the main costuming catch up one. Often times in class we'll be going over various things throughout history and it gives me ideas for more current clothing using similar design elements.

The image on the left is the result of going through ancient greece. I liked how a lot of the garments were different ways of draping and fastening the same basic shapes. The faux sleeves created by a belt and various ties is one of my favorites.

The image on the right is inspired by several dresses from the 1950's. I've got a large amount of avocado green kona cotton that I've been trying to figure out what to do with since I got it. I'm thinking of making that dress. I haven't completed the sketch yet and am not sure if I want to add more tiny little ruffles or pin tucks or anything like that.

Today I thought I would show you a few different illustration media that you can choose from. Each medium gives your drawing a different feeling. They all have their own complexities, disadvantages, and advantages. And, they all take a lot of time and patience!

First is colored pencil. We didn't do a lot with colored pencil. It was covered briefly during my freshman year fine art drawing class, and was used to draw fruit and cylinders. In my experience, you have to put down lots of light layers of color to get the best results. This takes a long time and a lot of pencils! But when done well, the final drawing is beautiful and smooth, incorporating several different shades of color to make one greater color. Here's a recent collection of colored pencil drawings (with some marker mixed in). These were done really quickly and don't at all look like a final drawing should, but it's the only example I have at the moment.
