Coutil, Fashion Fabrics, Boning, Oh My!

So as you can probably guess from the title, this week I've mostly been ploughing ahead with my corset. I've done a fair bit of work on the skirt too, though mostly that has been halted by the fact that the second batch of ping-pong balls I ordered were an ever-so-slightly different colour. Ack! Both sets are white-ish, but one is a pearly, gloss white, whereas the others are a matte, greenish shade. I like the former ones more, but the seller stopped selling them. :(

My plan is to make it up as usual, then spraypaint the whole skirt matte-white and decorate it with glue gun glue, in the long, pretty spider-web strings it's so good at making. Then I need to think about the net part, and ohh.. so much to do!

The corset is on track, though. Currently the fashion fabric bits are all made up, the coutil bits are all made up, and I'm doing the lining. Then I just need to add the last of the boning, channel in the busk, and put all the pieces together. Then come the lacing studs, and it's all finished! On the corset, anyway. The black fang-pattern on the fashion fabric looks really impressive. I can't wait to see it on my model!

The boning I'm using is spring boning, which in theory is easier to cut, but I still found myself flinging bits everywhere in my efforts. I'm using a straight busk from Vena Cava Designs, and two straight boning pieces along the back to give it some strength and rigidity around the vulnerable areas. The boning channels are made from the seam allowance (3cm) of each piece folded over it's neighbor's to form a tunnel. I'm quite excited at how this is all coming together! I'll add some pictures in a later post, for now I'm far too tired! I really should get to bed, I've got to go out and buy the gauntlet moleskin fabric tomorrow..
