I made this little tutorial to show you how simple it is to draw this girly and romantic dress using Adobe Photoshop (CS3). You should have basic PS skills or at least be acquainted with its interface to draw your own designs with this great software. Let's get started!

The first thing I recommend you to do after creating a new page (size is up to you) is to add a new layer. If the layers palette is hidden, simply activate it by clicking on Window -> Layers. On this layer we draw our basic dress shapes. Click on the pen tool
and make sure that the right options are selected. It should look like this
. I used a deep ruby red for the bottom and a lighter berry pink for the upper part but you can use different colors if you want.

Drawing paths with the pen tool: Lets start at the waistline on the left side of the bottom part: With the pen tool selected click somewhere inside your document. This first point is called anchor point. Now add another point where the left edge of the hemline is supposed to be. With the left mouse button still pushed move the mouse around so that the line becomes curvy. Release the mouse button and click on the second point while simultaneously pressing the Alt-key. Now you can finish the hemline. Create a new point for the right edge of the hemline and again, keep the mouse button pushed to draw a curved line. Continue doing this until you are at the right side of the waistline and close the path by clicking on the first anchor point. Now you can create the top part of the dress.
Duplicate the bottom part and fill it with a light pink color. Press Ctrl-T and make it a bit shorter than the original one. You can now rasterize these vector shapes and merge the first ones down on one layer. Use your right mouse button and click on the layers to do so. If you want to add a pattern to the shorter bottom part, just rasterize it but don't merge it with the other layers. Instead, duplicate it, import a pattern of your choice, copy it and paste it into the skirt shape. Reduce the opacity until you are satisfied with the way it looks. Now add some folds to the new upper layer by means of the dodge and the burn tool and reduce the opacity of this layer so it blends in nicely. You can use the same technique to add a pattern to the top part.

The pink waistband: Use the pen tool again and draw the shape. To add a surface pattern, click on the fx button at the bottom of the layers palette and make the following adjustments:

After rasterizing the layer you can add some highlights with de Dodge-tool.
How to draw the roses:

Draw the petals with different shades of the same color. Select the Burn-tool and darken the edges of the petals a bit. With a lighter pink highlight some of the edges and smudge the lines with the smudge finger tool. After that you can darken or highlight some areas again. Duplicate and resize the roses and arrange them.
The broderie anglaise: Select the pen tool and draw a drop shape with the color of the skirt underneath. Copy and paste this shape multiple times and arrange the "drops" around the hemline.
I hope this was helpful.
See you soon.

Sometimes this little summary looks better if there is no border around it. If you think it would look better on your website without a border find the code that says   border: solid 1px #456B8F;   and delete it (don't forget to delete the semicolon, " ; ").
